Banneker PTSA Meeting

Benjamin Banneker PTSA Meeting

 Media Center

October 9, 2018

6:30-7:00 General PTSA Meeting

7:00-8:30 The Signs of Suicide Parent Training

Banneker parents/guardians: You are invited to attend a very special and highly important training on October 9th during the PTSA meeting (6:30PM).

MCPS has suffered great losses of student lives to suicide in these recent years, so to help parents become more informed we are providing a one-time parent training session on The Signs of Suicide. This training precedes the classroom lessons students will be receiving this fall.

Please register via Eventbrite

Suicide affects people across racial, ethnic, gender, and age groups. Often times parents ask “why” and “how did I miss this?” This fall MCPS secondary schools are providing parent training on The Signs of Suicide. This very important training will be facilitated by the Banneker Student Support Services Team (counselors, school psychologist and PPW).

Welcome back Banneker families! If you’re like me, you’re finding it hard to believe that we’re already half way through the summer. And, I’m sure our students would rather think about anything BUT returning to school on September 5th!

Despite it being the middle of summer, your PTSA Board has been hard at work preparing for the 2017-2018 school year. Lots of planning is under way to help ensure our students have a great return to school and a successful school year. We have a dedicated team of volunteers in place, but we need a few more! If you have the desire to help our school community and like to have fun at the same time, then you’d be the perfect addition to our team. We invite you join our PTSA as we continue the work of advocating for necessary improvements to our 40+-year old building, planning enriching activities for our students, and recognizing our staff for their hard work all year long.

New This Year! Regular meetings will be held the 2nd Wednesdays of the month from 6:30-8:00 p.m. PTSA business will be covered the first half of the meeting and speaker presentations will be made the second half of the meeting. Speakers this year will include Banneker staff and community representatives who will speak on a variety of topics specifically designed for middle school students and parents. Be sure to contact us if you have a particular topic or speaker in mind.

We want to hear from you! For the latest news on Banneker happenings, sign up for our Bobcat Bulletin weekly newsletter at or contact me at I look forward to hearing from you!
